Margo Winters and Nathan Burke have settled into a fairly happy for now life on Slave World. They killed the bad guy, freed the slaves and Nathan’s sister, Donna, seems to be on the mend. However, Margo wants her old ship back when she gets word of where it will be. She wants them to go and snatch it back from the men who stole it from her and sold her into slavery. Nathan needs persuading, but finally gives in. Little do they know a relatively simple albeit hairy and dangerous ship retrieval will affect their lives in a seriously huge way. They have no idea what’s coming and how it will change them, but they’re about to find out.
Ho-ly Shit! I spent the majority of this book with my mouth hanging open. The imagination and creativeness blew me away and the writing carried me along in a flurry of page turning to see what would happen next. The only thing preventing me from finishing this book in one sitting was Life. Gotta hate when you have to be a responsible adult. Dammit.
I love, love, love Nathan. I would claim him for my own if I could. Margo is becoming a serious nut bunny though. Whew! And the pony DNA? I gotta say the whole pony mutation is what dropped my rating from a 5 to a 4.5. The extreme BDSM that Margo is subjected to is way beyond my comfort zone, too, but the whole book is well-written although it does have some minor editing issues. There are light moments in this book, but readers beware…it is also dark. It’s not in any way, shape or form a light fluffy erotic read. Hot, yes. Sugary, no.
Wroth and Snake? I.Love.Them. I absolutely want to see more of them as well as the new world Eden and I definitely want to know what the hell is going down on Slave World. Donna is one fascinating character, too and I’m very much looking forward to seeing her in action. Donovan and Ashley scare me. They need to die.
Be warned that there is a cliffhanger in this book. There’s no way to get all the story lines tied up by the end which I realized at 94%. Yes, I was so into reading that I didn’t know I was so close to the end with no way to ties things up until I happened to look in the corner of Stargate (my Paperwhite). Noooooo! Ah, well. Sometimes that’s the way things need to be. I’m looking forward to book 3 and hope the wait won’t be too long. *taps foot*… (lisätietoja)

Nathan Burke is an Overseer on Slave World. A combat veteran with years of experience in making people toe the line means he’s an ideal candidate for running the lives of the sexual slaves in his keeping. However, he hates Slave World, hates his job and most especially hates his brother-in-law who runs the place. But he has his reasons for staying.
Margo Winters was one of the best pilots in the Fleet, but those years are long behind her. With a bounty on her head she’s barely scraping out a living running illegal cargo. When a cargo run goes bad she loses everything including her freedom and ends up on Slave World where her path crosses Nathan’s once again.
This book is one crazy well-written ride. I have to say I never really thought to combine Sci-Fi with BDSM, but this story really works well. The characters are so lifelike I feel as if they should walk up and knock on my door so I can invite them in and hand them a cold beer. Margo is flawed, but gutsy. She’s a survivor and now she’s learning something new about herself that makes her life on Slave World more tolerable. Nathan is…ahhhhh, Nathan. *sighs dreamily* I’m half in love with him. Hard as nails, tough yet fair and a moral code as deep as the far reaches of space. Plus, he’s a Marine. How could you not love him? He’s not perfect either which makes him even more likeable as a main character. He does the best he can in a shitty situation and when Margo comes along he has even more motivation to do something about his circumstances.
I read Stone’s Steam & Spurs and enjoyed it, but the writing was just a tad rough. In Slave World the rough edges are smoothed out and his writing really shines. The plot is great and the BDSM isn’t too extreme except for the body modifications and even those aren’t as bad as I thought they would be. Maybe because I’m in the mindset that this is Sci-Fi. Of course, without it being Sci-Fi I don’t see how the many of the modifications would work. Anyway…in other words, while I enjoy BDSM and consider myself Dominant, I’m not much of a sadist and don’t particularly enjoy the really dark BDSM stories with what I consider extreme torture, pain and body modifications. This story is not too much nor too little, but just right. Well, at least for me. Some may not like any of it, but I know I’m really looking forward to reading Slave World 2: The Ties That Bind.… (lisätietoja)

Johnny Stone is a rough and gruff old-school Texan who has been through the grinder over his 50-some years. Once a soldier fighting for the Republic of Texas and later a Texas Ranger he’s now a bounty hunter picking and choosing the jobs he wants. When he agrees to go to Uranus to find and bring home the son of his client and he boards the airship the H.M.S Dreaming Star he has no idea he’s about to learn something completely new about himself. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
This steampunk story was a little different than the other ones I’ve read. Airships in this book can go into space and when in space it’s not much different than sailing the ocean. People can open portholes or go up on deck without dying from lack of oxygen in the vacuum of space. So, a bit of a departure from traditional sci-fi. It’s hard to wrap my brain around, but if I could breathe in space then I might just go on that Mars expedition instead of staying firmly where oxygen is in abundance.
The writing is very good, the characters are well-developed, the plot is interesting and the BDSM scenes are hot, hot, hot. There’s a scene towards the end that reminded me of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean. It was very entertaining! The only problems I had were some editing issues (punctuation problems and several instances of homophones) and the ending was left a bit up in the air. Will there be more of Johnny & Rainia?… (lisätietoja)

*Book source ~ Gifted from a friend.
Paula Redding is a Homicide Detective, but that’s not all she is. She’s a Werewolf, trying to hang on to her humanity while solving murders. Sometimes those murders are caused by the rare Werewolf infringing on her territory. Keeping her two lives separate hasn’t been too difficult until now. A string of murders indicates a serial killer, but the type of killing tells Paula that the killer is a Werewolf. However, not a female testing Paula’s authority, but a very rare Alpha male. Paula has never seen a male, but now that she has his scent there’s no going back to human for her. Is her carefully ordered world about to implode?
This is one compelling story! How do you reconcile two halves of your whole when one half is so primitive as to completely overwhelm everything that makes you human? Paula is between a rock and a hard place. She has a need to protect everything in her territory, but a rare Alpha is in town and her submerged Werewolf will not be denied the pleasure of mating, something she has never done in that form. It doesn’t matter that she has a job she takes very seriously or a man she loves very much. All that matters is the Werewolf and the most basic of urges.
This story is dark and is very gory in spots. I would have liked a bit more development of Jenks’ character and seen more of Paula’s relationship with him. I think that would have made what happened more horrific. Not that it wasn’t already, but the connection would have made the ending that much more painful to watch. Though this story technically has an ending, I’d be curious to see what happens later down the road. All-in-all a terrific emotion-filled read.… (lisätietoja)
