Sports Health is the most complete reference book on sports injuries available for the general reader as well as medical and sports professionals. Written by the coauthors of The Sportsmedicine Book along with one of the foremost sports physicians in the country, Sports Health explains athletic injuries in clear, concise, and understandable terms. Every common injury imaginable is described, including its cause, symptoms, treatment, outlook, and prevention of recurrence.

Special sections cover each part of the body from the shoulder to the foot, with individual discussions of common injuries, fractures, muscles, and more serious injuries. Separate chapters on children and nutrition make this a unique reference work, providing the most considered and up-to-date medical opinion available. Dr. Arthur Pappas, dean of orthopedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and medical director of the Boston Red Sox, is a preeminent specialist in pediatric orthopedic medicine. He wrote and reveiwed the chapters on muscles and children's injuries. Dr. Rob Roy McGregor, who developed the Etonoics running shoe, contributed material on foot injuries, and Nancy Clark, M.S., R.D., furnished the chapter on nutrition.

Dr. William Southmayd studied medicine at Harvard Medical School where, as an under-graduate, he was an All-Ivy-League guard and captain of the football team. He was chief resident of orthopedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and, since 1975, has been medical director of Sports Medicine Resource, Inc., the largest sports medicine clinic in New England. He is a consulting physician to the Boston Red Sox and is medical editor of The Professional Athlete.

Marshall Hoffman is a professional journalist and syndicated columnist, and is executive producer of Patrick Productions, a TV production company. He was formerly with U.S. News and World Report and is the coauthor of The Sportsmedicine Book.
