The Manufactured Identity is an interesting look at a complex set of lives and marriages that have a lot more going on than you would think upon the first look. The common thread among most of these relationships is that their partner has mysteriously gone missing, leaving behind a ton of questions and a lost sense of self in many cases...

From my blog

An amazing thought provoking psychological thriller. Heath did it again, he messed with my head. The execution of this story was so well crafted, bringing his thrillers all together. The Manufacture Identity, The Grand Delusion and now The Human Obsession, the perfect package deal. All can be stand alone's but I recommend you read them all.

There are a few stories going on but they each have their own place. You are trying to figure out how their puzzle piece fits into the larger picture. The stories will make you paranoid, educate you, make you question your own beliefs, bring personal judgments to the forefront, all while messing with your mind. We continue to go on the journey with all the characters from the other books while questioning their mental stability.

The Human Obsession is complex but interesting. Psychology, profiling a killer with mental heath illness and a hot, drama, detailed court room case, you have got to love that. The case was national news, this was so good, I couldn't get enough.

The Manufactured Identity is still my ultimate favourite but Heath sealed the deal with this one also. Complex and Brilliant. You can tell Heath writes for a larger purpose and executes so well. He takes you exactly where he wants when he wants.

If religion is a topic that makes you uncomfortable I do not recommend this trilogy. Now, if you enjoy a great thought provoking thriller, you must go buy his books now.

Dr. Heath Sommer has a PhD in Clinical Psychology which is apparent in his writing. Such a great way to open your eyes to the mental health illnesses in our world.

If your husband went missing what would you do? Heave a sigh of relief? Cry? Call the police after the appropriate 234 hour time limit? Many Texas women did at least one of these. If you lover went missing? Hope he didn’t die of AIDS? Ask around to your other pals if they have seen him? Go into counseling to work out your (and, presumably, his) issues? Many men and women also did one of these.
Through counseling sessions, Pete Mayberry has worked through at least some questions he has had over his lifetime. Does God love gays? Where will he go – After? What will he tell those he loves and who love him?
Curtis has his own problems. He can’t remember who he is. He does know he had over 10K in his sock when he woke up on a park bench. He knows he wasn’t hurt and has met people who swear they do know him. Counseling isn’t helping him, either as he feels it’s a load of crap.
Brought together by mutual losses, Addy, Lory, Jane and others are madder than sad. Why? Ask Frank, Pete, Curtis, Carson and John, Paul, George and maybe even Ringo. Heath Sommer wrote an interesting case study in this book and if I tell you anymore you won’t have reason to enjoy reading it. A worthwhile hang out on the front porch book just waiting for your attention.

The Grand Delusion is a prequel to The Manufactured Identity, which I enjoyed because of it's shocking twists and basis in real psychology. The Grand Delusion has many instances of abnormal psychology coming into play, but the focus is much more deeply based in religion.

The thriller portion of The Grand Delusion, the events leading up to and after a car crash that almost kills Jon, Addy and Merci, is just that - thrilling. The A fast-paced, what's-going-to-happen-next feel runs throughout that portion of the plot. Unfortunately, the multiple theological discussions that run that make up the rest of the book did not work for me.

While not focusing on any one religion, the theme of the book seemed to be "is there a god?" Addy, in particular, takes this question to heart and begins looking at everything that happens in life as a vote for or strike against god. Some readers may find this to be an interesting look at what is happening around her, but those who get easily annoyed by the inclusion of god in just about every single aspect of a book will not find this enjoyable. Having read The Manufactured Identity, I expected some religion, but never to the extent it was focused upon in The Grand Delusion.

The Grand Delusion is a good read, but it won't appeal to all readers. Those open to intense spiritual debate surrounding an equally intense psychological thriller will love The Grand Delusion. Readers who avoid theology will not.
