A complicated story of high school athletes, one of whom is gay, and the difficulties that arise for the straight guy. Published in 1981 the novel reflects the attitudes that were all too prevalent in those days and may still exist in some high schools in our more "enlightened" age.

This was the very first non-children's book I ever read. It was also the first book that so enthralled me I couldn't sleep until I finished it.

I read this many years ago... It came back to me in a dream last night... Any book that returns to memory within your subconscious this many years later must have been incredible.

I had read & liked this book as a preteen, but I have obviously outgrown it. As in "Shannon's Mirror", it just gets tiring to hear about someone complaining when the only real problem they have in their life is self-induced.
