Includes commentary, scripts and scenarios of authorized works in the performing arts during the height of China's cultural revolution: Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy; Shachiapang; Red Detachment of Women; The Red Lantern. It's curious that the author, a founding member of the Actor's Studio, is so appreciative and uncritical towards works so rife with ideology. She spent 5 months in 1970 in China, as the guest of Mao, and was, evidently, enchanted.
