We have all heard the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Its one of those stories that I told by heart and will continue to be in the eyes of children a great story of yours and mine. It tells the tale of Goldilocks that is wandering thru the forest collecting wildflowers when she happens upon the cottage where the three bears lived. She is lost and when she knocks on the door she realizes that its not locked and enters to the aroma of fresh porridge. Since she has been walking awhile she has gained a mighty appetite and decides to help herself. Papa Bears was too hot, Momma Bears was much too cold, but baby bears was just right and ate it all gone. She ventured to the den where she again found baby bears chair to suit her perfect, except breaks it. She then becomes very sleepy and goes in search of a comfy napping place where again she finds baby bears bed to suit her best of all and falls fast asleep. When the three bears return they find baby bears porridge all gone, and his chair broken and his bed being slept in. She was startled as she woke and dashed out of the cottage NEVER to be seen by the three bears again.
My kids have heard this story a multiple of ways and different renditions but love the most traditional the best. They take turns telling which part comes next. They really enjoy the stories that they know by heart and feel they contribute to.
In a classroom setting I would use this traditional story as a creative writing prompt to get them to think about the different ways they could change it up without loosing the morals or adding to them. We could introduce this in an art setting by having the students illustrate what they might think either the cottage or maybe even Goldilocks looked like. We could even use it in a Home Economics lesson and teach them to make porridge/oatmeal and maybe the different things that Momma Bear might have added to baby bears to get him to eat it all gone.
