I've read many self-help books, and the more I read, the more disillusioned I become with the entire genre. In The 5 AM Club, Sharma took a different approach than most of his colleagues. Rather than offering science-based discoveries and recommendations sprinkled with anecdotal evidence, he wrote the book as a fictional account of two people whose lives are changed forever in the most outlandish ways by a chance encounter with a billionaire.

Like most books of this type, The 5 AM Club is all about how a few small changes can lead you to become one of the wealthiest, brightest, and most successful people in the world. Sharma claims that simply waking up at 5 AM and following his 20/20/20 formula (20 minutes of rigorous exercise, 20 minutes of reflection, and 20 minutes of learning) is all you need to become one of the "top 5% of performers" in the world. As though life was some kind of recipe you could just follow to get guaranteed results!

I get the appeal of this type of book; I really do. Who doesn't want to know the step-by-step process by which we mere mortals can also become extraordinary? Unfortunately, Sharma's approach is short-sighted, extremely limited in scope, and doesn't take into account the lived experience of most people. Oh, and the writing is cringe-worthy.

Boring, with a dash of lengthy and useless added to it. It's a Must-Skip... Don't waste your time and money on Robin Sharma's books...
