”When will I stop being a stranger?” ”When I am no longer one to you.”
Teymour Shahabi has written a beautifully, bittersweet portrait of the search for love in the modern world of online dating, busy work schedules, and the heartache of loneliness. Throughout the novel, we — as readers — are given the intimate look into the life of Taylor, a young adult who sees life through a very black and white perspective and who longs for a partner to love. Jamie is someone they believe that could be their true love, but as both adults get to know one another, they realize it’s never that simple.
Teymour Shahabi invites his characters and his readers to observe the timeline of a relationship as it transitions from strangers familiarity and as emotions shift throughout. Words of Love is an endearing and brilliant novel.

The whole story is written in SMS texts, emails, and journals. First, I'll say that trying to explain a whole story using just text and emails is VERY very hard. I understood alot of whats happening from the journal and the long email, even though there are not very many of those. The SMS text back and forth was really confusing, Jamie & Taylor write in this poetry dance; not at all like how a regular person text. Also, not knowing what gender they are makes it confusing a bit too. Personally I think Jamie is the male and Taylor is the female, or maybe they're both female, I may be wrong, who knows. Unsure if it takes away from the story, but it would have made it better had I known. Also, it's a bit unclear why they both like each other so much, but that's not really the whole point of this story.
This story is about alot of our journey when we look for our significant other. It's based real journeys that alot of us go through when we use dating sites. I wish in the end didn't happen the way it did but such is life, and I wish the author would tell us in the gender as a mic drop too lol!

Disclaimer: I received this book as an early readers arc in exchange for an honest review.

Words of Love was really a unique book for me. I like reading contemporary romances and I love the style of including the context on screen text messages, emails, the personal journal entries of the main character, Taylor.

I could definitely tell that Taylor was more invested/ready to pursue Jamie’s character. Going off of Taylor’s thoughts and feelings we see in the journal entries, it’s clear that their heart was open for a serious relationship.

But since the narrative is solely from Taylor’s point of view, the story kind of leave it up to the reader’s interpretation: How interested or invested was Jamie’s character really?

That’s one of the main things I feel readers might find difficult to understanding/picture how Jamie’s character actually felt during their communication.

Admittedly, there were some moments I felt that Taylor was being catfish, potentially ghosted; or that they were actually more attached to this person they barely knew then what is it really necessary. Jamie’s character came across as laidback and open for a casual relationship/perhaps even just a friendship.

Which again puts the reader in Taylor’s headspace of uncertainty!! 😆

Words of love is a contemporary romance story but what I feel other reader will get from this book is seeing Taylor‘s character navigate through this isolation, feelings of loneliness and eventually their falling fast-and-hard feelings for Jamie.

And yes, Taylor’s character is flawed; they’re a chronic over-thinker ( I would know😌) in Law School struggling with isolation, anxiety and perhaps an impulsiveness that may be the reason behind their attempt at online dating. But, in my opinion, their actions and thoughts become more and more relatable with each journal entry.

I’d recommend others to give Words of Love a try because by the end of the book, I felt it slowly seemed to pivot from a will-they-won’t-they contemporary romance to a story of self-discovery for Taylor. And how they’re more in tune with their emotions and being more comfortable with the way things turn out with Jaime.

Words of Love is quick read but there are a lot of thought provoking and memorable quotes and passages in this story.

Disclosure: Got an advanced reader copy for free from LibraryThing Early Reviewers in exchange for an honest review. Nobody (including the author, publisher, or LibraryThing) had any say in this review and didn't read it until it was public.

This book was different from other books that I have read (and that you will probably read), it wasn't bad different, it was just different.

Sometimes the book was very vague, but other parts had very much detail. It made for a nice change but it did make it harder for me as a reader. Sometimes the book seemed more like a short story, or a journal, but some readers may appreciate it.

The characters (Jamie and Taylor) sometimes say what is on their mind, and sometimes say the exact opposite of what I was thinking. To me some of it came across as rude, but without more details it's hard to say.

In this book you not only get to read the characters text messages, but also online searches, which allows you to understand the character in a different depth. It's not something I've come across in my reading but it was nice.

If you are reading this on a e reader then do note that the icons and pictures in the book may not show or look weird. Some of them do add to the story, but if you don't seem it doesn't doesn't mean you will miss something.

The way the book was written, as text messages, could be great for some readers but also annoying for others because of the many lines and small amount on each line.

As with many books, there are a couple of times where I felt like it was filler, just added to meet some requirement, and provided nothing in return. I felt the author could have not included them and the story wouldn't have changed much.

Some parts of the books felt like reading poetry, or watching a true crime story. I don't know if the author intended that, and I certainly didn't expect it but it felt like a nice change in the book.

In the later part of the book, it seemed like the author wasn't how to continue the book but had to in order to wrap it up.

The last messages in the book seemed like a run-on letter without any real purpose or expectation of a reply. It kind of left the book in a spot where it could be finished without any real conclusion.

In my advanced reader copy, there was some weird formatting, spelling, unneeded capitalization, and unfinished messages throughout the book. I thought it was due to a convert I made, but the pdf copy I got from the author included it. My copy also didn't included a table of contents, which made it hard to keep track of reading progress, the page numbers were messed up, and felt like I didn't know when it was a good time to stop reading for the night.

Overall, if you are looking for a change in your books and the description of the book sounds interesting to you then give it a try but don't expect a blockbuster book.

"If I wanted relevant and interesting,
I’d be in the library."

"Who cares what happens eventually?"
