...and the hunt for Bodecker is on! The thrill of the hunt was certainly exciting, although maybe it was a bit too easy how Hammer and Ryan were able to track Bodecker down rather quickly.

In Book 3, a lot of lose ends were tied up, nicely and neatly.

The ending is rather sweet and a bit unexpected. I love that Luke and Jennifer came together and got married, they totally deserved each other and the happiness they give to each other is much needed after everything that has gone on in regards to the Alliance and hostel situations. I also liked how Emma and Ryan's happily ever after was left fairly open ended but still on a happy note

I would have loved to read about the trial of the mavericks and Bodecker. And always more about Dermot, but that's alright.

I would give this 3.5 stars.

I normally don't read Western Frontier stories but this one was surprisingly good. I enjoyed how the author took her time developing the story and some of the characters. There were times when I felt like I was transported back to the Western days before things were more settled across the USA. I really enjoyed reading about a number of characters, like Jennifer Sullivan, Luke Taylor, Cam Faraway, Cliff Ryan and a few other names who I cannot recall at the moment. That mini adventure that Sara, Kelley and Edith went on was so heartbreaking and emotional that it's hard to get out of your mind but it does demonstrate some of the hardship and brutal events some of the frontiers went through at the time. There are definitely a lot of strong and assertive women in this book, which is awesome and empowering especially given that time period. And wow, what a villain! A baddie who had the patience to plot and scheme to obtain the Taylors' and Keatons' property. Not saying I like Ed Parsons or Wilson Cutter but wow those are some bad guys! One of my favourite moments has to be Luke pointing his weapon at Wilson while having 3-4 other weapons pointed at him.

However, there are a few things that I did not enjoy. Kelley wasn't a very enjoyable character, to me she was more spoiled than independent or headstrong. The trial went on for far too long, especially having Kelley read out the diary and other stuff. While I did enjoy the story through various point of views, I sometimes felt (especially near the climax) that there was too much point of views. Another thing, the whole liberty and property thing was a very important point throughout the story, however that was all lost to me and I felt a little bored how they kept going on and on about it. And the whole no one would tell Kelley what this "Alliance" thing is for the longest time just pissed me off, like it's no big secret just tell her and us the audience instead of being all secretive and vague!

The ending, wow what a surprise cliffhanger! Never expected to see that happen. It still is a shocker days afterwards. It certainly set me up to read the next book...which I am!

I would give this book 4 stars.

It picks up not long after the huge cliffhanger in Book 1.

In Book 2, we get to meet and get to know Emma (the nosy but kindly reporter) and Sheriff Ryan at a much deeper level. I enjoyed reading the interaction between the two and how Sheriff Ryan keeps saving Emma over and over again.

Wow, there certainly were a number of unexpected moments. I actually cringed and flinched during those scenes where Luke was being tortured thanks to the effects of the drugs that Dr. Porterfield was administering to him for getting in the way of Donnelly and Bodecker. I shudder to think what would have happened had Ryan not followed his instincts and arrived just in time to save the day! That was a total nightmare, but very well written.

The whole Jennifer and Luke thing, I felt like I was being thrown through a loop as to exactly what lead to certain events, seeing how when we first read Book 2, it seemed like everything is perfect and they are on their way to their happy ending. Needless to say, the focal point of Book 2 isn't on them, which is totally fine as Book 3 addresses this a bit further.

There are a lot of villains and heroes in this book. I love how the sheriffs from different counties came together to help out. I am sad so many good lives were lost no thanks to the mavericks but ultimately they did help bring about some revelations.

I eagerly await for Book 3
