4 Play by Jess C. Scott is a YA LGBTQ+ collection of erotica short stories. These entertaining stories are written pretty well and cover a wide range of situations and characters. There are stories written mainly as a series of blog posts, stories of lesbians and stories of young men exploring their sexuality until they realize they wanted each other all along. Heterosexual story lines appear also. A few of the stories venture into uncomfortable territory (for me, anyway), such as young children having sexual fantasies and masturbating or brother and sister incest.

All in all, the book is a good and entertaining read by a promising young author. (I believe she has now changed her pen name since 4 play which was written about 15 years ago).

This is the second in a YA series by the author. I received this (e-book) through the LibraryThing Member Giveaways program.

Eyeleash starts out very much like a typical YA novel written as a series of private journal style blog articles and direct messages, texts, emails and cell phone conversations between the characters. The protagonist of Eyeleash is Jade Ashton, is 17 going on 30 (TRULY)! I found the writing style to be quite believable for what it was emulating (the blog posts, etc. described above). As they were private entries oftentimes written late at night or during or after parties, or messages written on a cell phone, the incomplete sentences or misspellings or ramblings seemed fitting.

This novel is Erotica literature. It focuses on the explicity lusts and longings of Jade and her particular sexual desire for Novan, a boy she briefly dated in the past and has just resurfaced. Jade is about as privileged, shallow and self-centered as you can get. Her numerous (multiple times weekly) ritzy shopping sprees at mall after mall are jaw dropping.

I found myself getting caught up in the story of Jade and Novan and wondering how things would end up for them, especially after Novan stands Jade up and things seem to unravel almost completely. Along the way, it does seem that Jade is learning some things. She had been dipping into the world of computer generated dating "games" with avatars flirting with other participants and had a rude awakening when meeting a "date" IRL (in real life).

She then has a surprise encounter with the boy she feels a true connection and friendship with, Novan. Though they haven't gotten off on the right foot yet, for once things seem like they might be heading in the right direction for those two. All-in-all, Eyeleash: A Blog Novel is an enjoyable, erotic, sexually explicit coming-of-age novel.

I received this as a free ebook from story cartel for my honest review. This book was more to an extreme than what I was expecting. I thought it was well written however I was extremely disappointed in how the end was left as a huge cliffhanger- I felt it ended a little abruptly and thought maybe I hadn't downloaded it all. I liked how it was written through both twins. Overall I would be interested in reading the others in the series however to some this may be a very offensive or disturbing reads. Not for those who are light hearted.… (lisätietoja)

(Reprinted from the Chicago Center for Literature and Photography [cclapcenter.com]. I am the original author of this essay, as well as the owner of CCLaP; it is not being reprinted illegally.)

I have to confess, I don't have much to say about Jess C. Scott's new dark bizarro novel Playmates, book one of a coming "Wilde Twins" series, because there's simply not much to say about it in the first place -- a transgressive noir in the style of Kathy Acker, like many of these books it is cartoonish in the level of abuse and degradation on display (in this case, by a set of dysfunctional parents towards their twin children), which serves as the catalyst for a series of ultra-violent, Tarantinoesque adventures (involving the Wilde Twins of the book's title, who go off on a streak of chaos when older that is so over-the-top as to be deliberately ridiculous). And that's...well, you know, it is what it is, and those who like these kinds of books (you know who you are) are sure to like this one as well, although for general readers be warned that this follows a well-worn set of easily guessed tropes and doesn't really contain much more of interest besides that. A book tailor-made for the hardcore bizarro fans it was designed for, but that likely won't appeal to anyone else, it is getting the middle-of-the-road score today that such an assessment deserves.

Out of 10: 7.2
