Aylun is the second book in David Scidmore’s captivating Ever-Branching series. Although both Dellia and Aylun occur during the same timeline and can be read in any order, I chose to read them in their published order. This installment focuses on Megan’s story, whereas Dellia is centered around Jon’s.

Megan had always lived life on her own terms, but an impossible prophecy threatens everything she loves, making her choices no longer her own. Aylun's life revolves around serving oracles and protecting prophecy, and his insights could be key to explaining the impossible. However, Megan must force herself to work with the heartless tyrant.

Megan, skilled at solving puzzles, worked as an assistant in a physics lab with her best friend, Jon. An accident thrusts them into a terrifying alternate world, where Aylun takes Megan from Jon’s side.

Born and raised to serve the enigmatic Augury, Aylun’s life has been dedicated to serving as the invisible hand of the Great Oracles. After a mission gone wrong, Aylun is expelled from the only home he has ever known.

As Megan and Aylun undertake a mission into a place of unthinkable peril, Jon and his new friends, Dellia, Garris, and Kayleen, face a dark and ancient menace threatening everything they care about. As the puzzles deepen and horrors multiply, Megan’s best hope lies with Aylun.

This epic high-fantasy romance seamlessly blends alternate worlds, action, adventure, and dire peril with political intrigue and some wonderful humor. At over 1000 pages, Aylun is a massive book that I was excited to dive into. Scidmore’s writing is engaging and entertaining, creating a romantic fantasy that complements Dellia perfectly. The additional details fill in gaps without weighing down the story, making it feel natural rather than excessive.

What I love about this book, and the series as a whole, is its classic epic fantasy feel combined with strong, dynamic characters. The women in this book are not waiting to be rescued; they play major roles throughout. The men, particularly Jon and Aylun, are not afraid to show their sensitive sides and fears, creating a well-balanced and refreshing narrative.

I was so engrossed in the storyline that I didn’t even notice the pages flying by. The ending is satisfying yet leaves some questions unanswered, leaving room for a potential third book! I sincerely hope Scidmore continues the Ever-Branching series because it is just wonderful. If you love classic fantasy on an epic scale with well-developed characters, plenty of action, romance, adventure, humor, and mystery, then this series is a must-read!

Dellia is an epic high-fantasy romance that successfully blends alternate worlds, action, adventure, and dire peril with political intrigue and a pinch of humor.

This novel was exactly what I needed to escape from the stress of the real world. 😊 It has everything from science to romance to dragons Once I started reading, I didn’t want this book to end.

The story begins in the "real world," complete with science and modern technology, which adds a level of relatability to the character and the plot line. Jon is just a regular guy, yearning for a simple life with few responsibilities and someone to share it with. However, a shattering accident rips him from his uncomplicated life and plunges him into a baffling world that defies the physical laws he knows so well. Lost and alone with all his technology broken and no food or water, Jon is in dire need of help. Skilled and knowledgeable, Dellia is just the help he needs, if only he can keep from falling for the one woman whose duty might compel her to stop him.

The fantasy world Jon finds himself in is so vivid and thoroughly described that I felt like I was actually there, experiencing the adventure alongside the characters. This was one of my favorite things about the book and made me excited to read Aylun next! As the story progressed, I became invested in several of the characters and eagerly anticipated what would happen next. Despite being a long book, the pages flew by.

Another one of my favorite aspects of this book was how it balanced the real world with the fantasy world, making the transition feel natural and seamless.

However, I give it 4 out of 5 because of the romance between Jon and Dellia. While the romantic tension added depth to the story, Dellia’s constant overthinking and back-and-forth about her duty and her feelings for Jon was a bit much at times. Her internal struggle felt repetitive and slightly detracted from the overall flow of the narrative.

Nevertheless, Dellia is a fun, adventurous story with good banter, humor, and an interesting plot. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable read that will transport you to a different world and keep you hooked until the very end.

When I first got this book, my eyes went wide. I was not expecting such a hefty book. Over 1000 pages and it took some time to read. I did enjoy the story as it was filled with fantasy, action, romance, world building, some interesting characters. But like I said it is long. I have no issues with long stories but I know some people do like shorter ones. If you are looking to dabble into something long, I would recommend this book. So much goes on and it keeps you actively engaged.

Aylun is truly an epic adventure. From the moment Megan and Jon are first thrust into the world of Meerdon, the action does not stop. Scidmore weaves a story of magic and intrigue that will captivate you until the last word. The robust world-building allows readers to escape right along with the main characters and navigate the troubles in Meerdon by their sides.

I really wanted to give this book more stars, but I was worn down by the end of this story. There is a lot of over-explanation and characters second-guessing the world that pulled me out of the magic. Attributing this to Jon's being a scientist makes some of it forgivable, but it still lost my attention after a while.

If you need to escape reality and go on an epic adventure, dive into The Ever-Branching Tree series.
