This was SO GOOD. I immediately recommended it to a bunch of my friends and family. So much information in this book was new to me -- it's almost embarrassing that I didn't know this stuff. That is until I remembered that non-heterosexual behavior in zoological research has been intentionally suppressed for hundreds of years.

Very entertaining novel, weaving together SF tropes like 2001's hostile, deceptive AI (representing a character's "Mother," so invoking "Alien"), the distant Cold War influences of "2010," Blade Runner's doubting one's own humanity, the struggle to waken from hibernation like in Project Hail Mary, and the struggle to communicate across temporal resets ("Edge of Tomorrow," etc.). That the two characters do end up a couple seems kind of unlikely? In fact, it all ends a bit too happily. But I like that the characters do (repeatedly) wind up together, and that we do get our happy ending.… (lisätietoja)

We’re taught the natural order means male-female pairs for each animal on Earth. Darwin’s theory of natural selection only seems to confirm it—aren’t heterosexual pairings the best way forward for any species? But there’s more to the story than most of us know.
A quiet revolution has been underway in recent years, with study after study revealing substantial same-sex sexual behavior in animals. Join celebrated author Eliot Schrefer on an exploration of queer behavior in the animal world—from albatrosses to bonobos to clownfish to doodlebugs.
In sharp and witty prose—aided by humorous comics from artist Jules Zuckerberg—Schrefer uses science, history, anthropology, and sociology to illustrate the diversity of sexual behavior in the animal world. Interviews with researchers in the field offer additional insights for readers and aspiring scientists.
