Footnote provides an excellent working "account" of postmodernity as context:

Compilation of essays from a variety of faith practices on spiritual care.

The editor, Daniel S. Schipani, focuses on the caring outcome and practicums that are scientifically demonstrable. He also provides, in the last chapter, a proposal for understanding "human spirit" as something that is "not collapsed into either our psychological views of 'mind' or our theologically specific conceptualizations about 'spirit'." While this is aspirational, he offers an inclusive functionalist definition, with three interrelated dimensions -- Vision, Virtue, and Vocation. Many of these proposals actually "work" -- it turns out that views of "good life" and morality are remarkably universal.… (lisätietoja)
