This is a very literary book. It has a lot of detail, particularly about artists and writers who lived or worked in the region and some history. But as a guidebook, it is not that great - you can't just flip to the page on a town and get a good summary of its history followed by a list of things to do. The maps are also not that great, I would have liked more regional and town-level maps. This is really more of an armchair travelogue than a guidebook.
