English translation of the Maldivian classical romance of Dhon Hiyala and Ali Fulhu. I'm trying to read a book from every country on earth, and since the Maldives is a tricky one, this was a wonderful find. Very interesting to read a story that is clearly in the oral tradition, yet so very different from the European tradition, which I am more familiar with. Obviously some of the cultural stuff went over my head, but I very much enjoyed spending time in a world I didn't quite understand.
