Barking Mad by Leigh Russell is a nice mystery thriller set in a small village. The plot is a little bit slow and does not arouse much interest and weaves its way. At some points there are some good points to read further. but, I felt that the plot was going haywire and things were really not into place. The characters were also a bit off. It was only in the later half that the things were a little bit interesting. I loved the author's earlier work and I was totally not expecting this time. May be the book was not for me. Without Trace by Leigh Russell is a fast paced thriller which serves us with the right amount of mystery in the plot. The opening scene at once grabs attention. The storyline is so engaging that I could not put the book down for a second. The plot focusses on murders and serial killers with lots of police procedures and action. The most interesting characters of the book are George and Andrew who are nasty and go to any extent concealing themselves. DI Geraldine's character is also interesting but the antagonists rule the plot. Reading it was like watching a police action drama on TV. But, while reading the book you need to remember very small details to get the crux of the story, especially, conversations between police and the accused. For me it was a fastest book ride I have taken.
Definitely, the book deserves 5 stars for such an exciting plot. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.… (lisätietoja)

This is my first Leigh Russell read and I am glad that I stumbled upon her!
The story telling quality is good but for some reason I find myself needing breaks every now and then.
The plot wasn't very twisty for a crime fiction. However, it is not the twistiness of the plot that brought me reading enjoyment but how they got there. How the bad guy got caught. It is more about the journey than the actual end. Not that the end does not matter as well, because it does!
I got a little annoyed with the victims in the story. It was like they were running through hurdles to get killed! Geez!
This is my first Lucy Price-Lewis audiobook listen and I would buy audiobooks by her again.
