Rose Zarelli is starting sophomore year and she has plans for this year. She wants to be someone that isn't plagued by being the girl who called 911 at that party last year, someone that has a senior boyfriend, someone that breaks out of her shell and gets a lead in the school musical. That's right, Rose discovered a new passion: singing. But surprise surprise, things don't go the way she envisioned it. Her year starts out with another party scandal, her BFF's are all finding their "thing" and it turns out they're all really pretty and talented, and Jamie Forta is still Jamie Forta. Rose and her mom are again not quite clicking, and Peter (her brother) has big problems of his own, and that singing thing? It turns out she hasn't found out exactly where her voice fits in....
My Thoughts:
So this was another sequel that I've been dying to read. I fell in love with Rose's voice last year when I read Confessions of an Angry Girl. She made me feel like I wanted to go back to high school so I could be friends with her. In this second book, I wasn't disappointed. Rose was back and she was just like she was in the first book, but with a little more perspective. She knows more about what she wants, or at least what direction she wants to head in.
The relationship with Rose and Jamie is borderline annoying in this book. Jamie is back to being an enigma and honestly it's getting old. Rose has been naïve for way too long... she needs to date a guy who actually talks to her more than once every 6 months. Jamie comes to Rose when he feels like it, she drops everything to give him her undivided attention, and then he's gone. I know they have chemistry, but if the guy has known you for 2 years and he's still not wanting to date you, move on. He's just so unavailable to her, and she's way too available to him. But I must say this is a very realistic high school relationship! Oh and Rose is unfortunately still making Jamie look pedophile-ish by just blurting out how inexperienced and confused she is by all things sexy-times.
But you guys I really did love this book. Rose is such a realistic character, and while I might not always love everything she's thinking and doing, I feel like I know her. Something cool that goes on in this book is that Rose, her mom, and sometimes Peter, go to therapy. Actually it's not so much cool as it is completely explosive. Some of the most intense moments in this book were during these therapy sessions where they don't hold back. (Also I find the whole concept of a shrink going to see a shrink amusing).
Another thing in this book that hooked me was Regina's brother, Conrad's, story. Conrad goes through some of the bullying issues that Rose went through in the first book (although on a completely different level), but he doesn't want anyone's sympathy. Conrad follows in his sisters footsteps by being a hardass.
This one again ended abruptly, so I look forward to reading more about Rose and her confusing life.
Overall: LOVE!!! If you liked the first book (Confessions of an Angry Girl), you won't be disappointed by this one. Rose is still Rose with her naivety and attitude. If you like reading about down-to-Earth real girls, I highly recommend this series!

This is one of those books that sort of caught me by surprise. I expected it to be fantastic as it was very high on my TBR list. It wasn't that fantastic as I thought it was going to be, but it was good.
Rose Zarelli is having a hard time in her first year of high school. Her dad's just died recently, her best friend has turned into a "cheer-witch" , her guy friend has a crush on her which she just wants to be friends with, and she's ended up kissing the boyfriend of Regina, one of the meanest girls in the school. Regina is now dead set on making Rose's life as miserable as possible. This book is about the ups and mostly downs of Rose Zarelli's freshman year of high school.
I really don't know how I feel about the characters. I felt like there wasn't enough character building for me to care about each character 100%. There were times when I felt like I didn't really care what happened to Rose. Other times, my heart went out to her because I could relate to some of things that were happening to her. The character of Regina was good although she was made out to be a stereotypical mean cheerleader type. I really couldn't stand Regina simply because she was a mean girl. I feel like the author didn't really show us enough of Jamie and Tracey's personalities. Why did everyone think Jamie was a bad boy? This was never really explained in the book. As for Tracey, she just came across as sort of a chameleon character, basically blending in with whomever she was with.
The pacing of the book is another thing I had a problem with. Most of the time it was way too slow. A lot of the chapters I had a hard time really getting in to. Don't get me wrong, there were some chapters that the pacing was done spot on. However, the majority of the time, the pacing felt really slow.
I think the dialogue was well suited to a YA novel for teens between the ages of 14 to 17. There are a few swear words but not so many that it becomes too much. There's just enough swearing to make it believable...I'm basing this on my teenage years though, lol.
I do like the title, and I admit that the title definitely did catch my attention. However, I don't really feel that Rose was an angry girl. I felt like she was more of a bullied girl. She didn't really come across as that angry to me until right around the end where her mother asks her about it. The whole "anger" conversation in the book felt as if the author just threw it in so the title would make sense.
I believe the cover suits the book. The girl on the front (which I believe is Rose) looks a bit unsure of herself which is what I felt that Rose was feeling throughout the book.
Like I said, I did like the book even if there were some major issues. It made me feel like I needed to know what was going to happen. I'm definitely getting the second book in the series just because of how this book ended.
I would recommend this book to a high school girl. I wouldn't really recommend it to adult fans of YA though.

I didn't love this one like I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed it and found it hard to put down; I just can't say that I loved it.
Rose is a 14 year old freshman in High School, she lost her father in Iraq over the summer and while it may seem like she isn't having a hard time with it, you can tell that it is really bothering her; even if she can't. Her mother is there, but not really THERE; while helping other children deal with their problems, she can't seem to grasp that there is something going on in her own house. Rose's brother Peter is off at college and has asked an old friend to keep an eye on Rose since he knows how high school can be.
Rose's best friend since elementary school; Tracy, is really your typical wanna be freshman. She goes out for the cheer leading team and is always talking about sex. Rose is only 14 and while her two friends seem to be ok with having sex and loosing their virginity, Rose just isn't ready. She would prefer to wait and that kinda puts a strain on her relationship with Tracy.
Rose develops a crush on Jamie; whom Peter asked to keep an eye on her. And at the Homecoming dance Jamie kisses Rose, which just makes Rose's little crush that much more apparent. Jamie's sorta girlfriend Regina is the ultimate high school bully. She starts harassing Rose before the dance, due to Jamie following Rose out of a party. When the most of the school is at an after party the night of Homecoming Rose happens upon a semi friend who is drunk and passed out in the bathroom. She ends up calling 911 and is then labeled as a snitch of sorts.
Slowly everything comes to a head and Rose realizes just who her true friends are. I was surprised at the end of the book, and would have loved to know a little more. Does Jamie make it up to Rose after being arrested on Prom night? Do Rose and Tracy go through with their plan of getting back at Regina?… (lisätietoja)

I just want to say I LOVE ROSE!! I love real girls in books! Anyway back to this book: I could not stop reading it or thinking about it. It was also deceiving. Rose isn't really all that angry. I mean she has her moments, but she's not walking around flipping out on people. Most of the time she just keeps quiet and walks away. She has pent up anger (mostly because of her dad) and that comes out in flashes, but she's not as angry as I was thinking she would be.
This book is about a girl trying to figure out how to navigate through high school, and not doing a very good job at it. She has a homecoming 911 incident that brands her as the school-narc, her best friend Tracy is becoming more and more cheerleaderish, and she has the wrath of Regina coming at her. I really liked Tracy. She was kind of dumb, but I think there are a lot of Tracy's out there. She wanted to believe that her boyfriend was in love with her and that's what she was going to believe. My real beef with Tracy wasn't the betrayal of Rose about Jamie, it was the gynocologist thing... telling that to me was way more unforgivable than telling about some guy.
I loved the Rose/Robert/Jamie thing! Rose treated Robert like crap and didn't deserve him and Jamie was an enigma. It was so real life! But why did the brother have to go from a really caring look-out-for-you kind of guy to a douche just because he met a girl?
The only thing I would've changed is that I thought Rose came off too naive at times. I know she is only 14 in this book, and completely inexperienced with guys, but to me it was like she was guy-retarded at times. And because of that Jamie did come off like a pedophile where normally he wouldn't.
Overall: Loved it! Read it!
