Book on the singing cowboys with chapters on Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Eddie Dean, Jimmy Wakely, Monte Hale, and Rex Allen plus a chapter on some lesser known singing cowboys like Dick Foran. While a great deal of the book is devoted to Autry and Rogers, I would have liked to have learned more about Dick Foran. Another disappointment was that black singing cowboy, Herb Jeffries ,was not included who I always thought looked more like a cowboy than Gene Autry. The book contained interviews the author had conducted with these stars over the years which were fine but they didn't really contain much new information. An exhaustive account of the rise of the Asian detectives whose adventures were recounted in numerous movies of the 1930s and 1940s, derived from books and short stories which invariably were significantly different than the movie versions. Includes the origins of each of the three popular characters and plot descriptions for each written version and radio and movie script, as well as tidbits about the various actors. Personally, I stopped reading the book and script plots after awhile, but focused on the productions and the actors. Good for casual reading, especially if you scan it like I did, as well as for the super-fan who will welcome the detail. Great job of research.… (lisätietoja)
