For being a mere young girl, Nellie was very smart, and quick thinking. Nellie heard talk in the town that there was an outlaw named Desperado Dan on the loose. Nellie's father was at Cripple Creek Mine, and she knew that she had to go warn her father about Desperado Dan. Nellie set off to find her father and on her way there she ran into the outlaw himself, Desperado Dan. During Nellie's encounters with Desperado Dan she was a quick thinker to get him off her trail for a little while. She picked Desperado Dan's brain when she called him the preacher, a schoolmaster, and a traveling judge, but one thing she never called him was a sheriff. When Desperado Dan asked why she called him all these people except for a sheriff, Nellie told him because her dad is the sheriff around here and Nellie's Pa took the outlaw down. Nellie knew she had to protect her father and help the town catch the outlaw so the best thing she could think of was to lead him straight to her Pa. Nellie was a hero in this book in her father’s eyes. She was very brave and with her quick thinking she was able to help her Pa catch the outlaw and put him back where he belonged. As a reader you can tell that this book's time period was far different than the one, we live in today.… (lisätietoja)

Nellie seems sure of herself and confident with her relationship with her father. She makes a point to not show her fear of the bandit even thought she was scared of him. Also, knowing her surroundings even as she has changed course to leading the bandit straight to her father, the sheriff. Making it to her father is her main goal and running into the bandit seemed like a coincidence, but she knew all along who the stranger was and what just to do. It was an adorable book that I read aloud in my country accent, I just could not help it! It's a great book to teach about stranger danger for students.… (lisätietoja)

Nellie and the Bandit is the story of a young girl who outsmarts a mean outlaw. Nellie is smart and sassy and leads Desperado Dan away from the town and straight to the Sheriff. The book takes place in the Wild West. The reader is transported to the wild west by the stylization of the text. My children loved this book it was wonderfully written with a country twang. My daughter and son both enjoyed the southern drawl in the dialogue, and my daughter especially loved that the villain was outsmarted by a young girl.… (lisätietoja)

Nelli was an intelligent girl who saved her town from Desperado Dan. Desperado Dan was a tricky man who impersonated people of the town to try to successfully escape from jail. Dan was not successful with his impersonations because young Nelli lead him right to her father who was the sheriff.
The plot follows a unique tale of repeated events in this story. The introduction begins by the author explaining the conflict of Desperado Dan escaping from jail. Then the same experience of Dan impersonating different people and Nellie outsmarting him occurs multiple times before concluding with Nellie outsmarting Dan and turning him into her father who is the sheriff. This book was not one of my favorites. The historical setting of the wild wild west was not overly noticeable when reading this story. Overall, the plot was academically well put together, but for the interest of a reader this book did not grab mine.… (lisätietoja)
