I highly recommend this book to understand the true history of Islam and its Prophet.

“But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those (who say this) are witless.”

Read the story of Mohammed for yourself, and see if you can figure out who is right.

The author is very clear that he wants his book to persuade its readers that Islam is dangerous, violent, and will soon lead to the destruction of Western liberal culture. In the first chapter he says "Conflicts around the globe, terrorism, immigration, treatment of women etc. can never be properly understood without a basic grasp of Islamic doctrine." In the last, he asks the reader to pass the book on, and to rate it highly on Amazon, so that our grandchildren do not have to live in a world in which "Sharia Law will steadily replace Western secular law and non-Muslims will find themselves victim to ever increasing discrimination and disenfranchisement which they will be powerless to oppose."

The good thing is that he presents this opinion carefully, always being clear that it's the religion and the source of the religion that is the problem, rather than Muslims themselves (they are "human beings like any other", trapped in "a system which was designed by Mohammed... to take over the world, by force if necessary"). He never advocates violence or even repression of Islamic people, and he often suggests that the reader follow up with their own research to better understand how insidious and untrustworthy Mohammed and his religion are.

The bad thing is, he's not a very good researcher himself. Many of his "facts" are supported by unreliable sources which still only partly support his argument. Sometimes I suspected that one of his statements was wrong, and it would only take moments to discover that his own reference had been debunked. Sometimes I would have to do a lot of research to learn about the context of an issue he had made a strong statement about, but in the end it was rare for me to decide that he was right. His main source is a single book which he introduces as the "superbly simplified" "most widely used" "absolute definitive biographical account of Mohammed's life for Islamic scholars" - but my research did not find it to be held in such high regard either by Muslims or western academics.

And he makes way too many universal statements against Islamic culture which are so obviously wrong that the effort of disproving them feels like a game. "no feminist has ever denounced female genital mutilation", "in 700 years Islam has not produced a single invention", "moderate Muslims... will never confront the Jihadists", "Middle Eastern studies courses never examine Islamic Doctrine or Jihad". These are really the worst part about reading this book - it's well written, it's interesting, then every couple of chapters he makes a huge negative statement which he could never prove and which is easy to disprove. It was very off-putting for me. If he removed a dozen such statements from the book it would be more readable and sound much less like a bad teenage debater.

I learnt a lot about Mohammed and Islam as a result of reading this book, but most of what I learnt was from following his references and reading more to understand them. Accepting this whole book at face value would have left me with more unfounded opinions than I had before, and more confusion. I'm glad I read it, because it has been a catalyst for me to investigate Islam in more detail and improve my opinions. It's engaging and not too long, and in many ways quite fair, so it wasn't a difficult read.
But I don't suggest that you read it, unless you're reading a few other books about Islam as well. The author's bias, even though clearly stated, is just too strong.
