In having the fortitude to finally stand up for herself and another, Anna set an entire chain of events in motion. In Civil Rights Movement era Alabama, a Lebanese woman should not be the only one to allow the colored mailman to bring her mail, but she did, and went one better by giving him some water on a sweltering day. With this action, Anna's story unfolds, and she tries to pick up the pieces of her life, which has gone completely awry.
