Carol Purves

Having previously read a difference version of Gladys Alyward's gripping story, I was intrigued as to what would make Carol Purves version unique. Her style is engaging and she succeeds in making it difficult for the reader to put down her book. I particularly enjoyed reading about Gladys' youth in Edmonton, her initial dangerous trip across the Balkans to China, her miraculous experience with rioting prisoners, and her epic journey across the mountains with a hundred children. Purves is also not afraid to mention controversies surrounding Alyward's life, meaning we as readers get a rounded and complex picture of this incredible woman.… (lisätietoja)
