This workshop will focus on identifying censorship (even your own) and freeing creativity to burrow past writer’s block. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises, activities, and in-depth discussions on literary devices to add depth and creativity to any form of writing. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing story, form/structure, imagination/imagery, and “music” in the work of other select writers and applying those devices to participants’ own writing as homework to bring back and share with the group. Participants will also learn take-away strategies to nurture creativity at all times in spite of everyday deterrents and distractions. Sessions will meet every other week in the bookstore for on-site classes with alternating on-line check-ins, updates and assignments between physical meetings. The final session will be a “sharing/celebration” with workshop participants reading their works-in-progress for invited family, friends, and community.
