This biography tells the life of Queen Elizabeth I. It shares her political struggles along with her social ones. Although this book was very interesting it introduced a lot of other royals and got a bit confusing. It was hard for my 10 year old to keep up with all the different people this book talked about.

When Elizabeth became Queen of England in 1559, many Catholics viewed her as a threat. Her first action during her reign was to choose the men who would help her rule the country. Growing up, Elizabeth always lived in her half sister Mary's shadow. She was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. Many people despised Anne Boleyn and King Henry eventually had her executed. Before her reign, Mary even had Elizabeth imprisoned in the Tower of London after she was suspected of treason. During her lifetime, Elizabeth never married and was coined as "The Virgin Queen." This book gives details about Elizabeth's childhood, the challenges she faced during her reign, and her legacy. Because of the length of this book, it is a great resource for anyone wanting the important details of Elizabeth's life. A good book for someone who would need to do a report on her.… (lisätietoja)

A Timeline History of the Thirteen Colonies by Mary K. Pratt is a great resource for parents and teachers to have on hand for kids. Pratt covers the colonies one at a time explaining their beginnings and leading up to the Revolution. In addition to the text and timelines, Pratt also has bubbles of interesting facts. One of the things I love is that included in this book are a glossary and a further information page.

This book will help foster a child's quest for information without bogging them down with an overload of information. In actuality I think the book is around fifty pages, so it's the perfect length for middle graders. There are other books in this series including The Declaration of Independence and Early American Republic.

This book is a brief look at the life of Elizabeth the 1st, Queen of England. The book tells the story of her life, starting first at the day she learned that she was the Queen, it then returnes to her childhood thru to her death. It is filled with many colorful illustrations that help show the people of that era. An entire chapter is devoted to the the accompishments that England made under her rule. Because of it's size, it is not as detailed as many of the other books on the subject. Many important parts of her life, such as the affects of the death of her mother, is condensed into a few lines of text. The chapter on her accomplishments could have been put back into the previous chapters rather than taken out and put at the end of the book. This book would be useful for younger students as a starting offf point into futher learnings about this subject. For older students, I would want to use a more detailed book. At best, it could be used as a reading assignment that students would write about overnight or during a 90-120 minute class.… (lisätietoja)
