It was short and sweet. A nice start to what could be nice little series

Perfect book for Covid-fatigue. Light, well written with a decent plot and a HEA.

I wonder if this book was written before Polk's first trilogy and only picked up for publication once those were successful? It's definitely not as thoughtful as they were. Still good---if you like Austen and other stories about women navigating baroque social rules, you will probably like this. It was genuinely stressful to read at many points. Unfortunately the ending went on too long and a few too many wishes were fulfilled all in a row. Could've left the solution to collars to another book; having the solution dumped on the reader in a rush felt unearned.

I didn't read the description closely before I picked this up, so of course I assumed that Ianthe was a tall dark handsome dyke, based on the name. Nope, all het. Sigh!

I got the impression in the first two books that everyone's in their 20s; it's more apparent in this one that Robin is actually 40-something and has 40-something concerns. Nice.

There's a lot left out about what it means, culturally, to be nonbinary in Aeland, which is weird because all the other worldbuilding and politics is so lovingly detailed. Robin at one point decides that a small footprint implies a woman left it; Zelind corrects her that it could have been "she or khe," and Robin readily agrees and then says something like "but khe'd be listed as female in the army records." So... there are nonbinary people but no binary trans people, there's at least some institutional transphobia, but Zelind is never misgendered even by kher abusive, assimilationist family.… (lisätietoja)
