I love this book. I want to take this book and show it to everybody. This book explains shows what a bit of initiative can do with design in bringing low cost solutions to people who need them. Theres a couple of "Why didn't I think of that" projects in here, including simply cutting slits into chairs so purses and bags can be hung, preventing theft in public places. Another project that falls in this category is simple filling transparent water bottles and putting them on the roof for a period of time to get clean water. There is a number of do it yourself type projects, including rain barrels and how to make bio diesel.

A large number of projects in this book are aimed at developing countries, there are number of projects that are already in place in places like America and Europe. Usually, these are small changes that make a big improvement. For example, Target has a color system to all its prescriptions and designed the bottle for easier reading. It wasn't a large change, but it made finding the correct prescription to take at the right time of day much easier for those with multiple prescription.

There were only a few projects that I didn't think should be included, namely the iPhone Apps, and the Lego Mindstorm.

My favorite designs are the battery dispensing machine, the wind belt, and the battery charged by movement. Pure awesomeness. The question I keep asking is why is this not available!!!… (lisätietoja)
