The four sequences in the film cover four days in a life of young Warsaw lad in September 1938, 1939, 1943 and 1944. In the first sequence Jurek decides not to study in the Sorbonne but enlists in a Polish military school instead. In the second sequence the war starts and Warsaw is occupied. Le quattro sequenze del film coprono quattro giorni in una vita di giovane ragazzo di Varsavia nel settembre del 1938, 1939, 1943 e 1944. Nella prima sequenza Jurek decide di non studiare alla Sorbona ma si arruola in una scuola militare polacca. Nella seconda sequenza inizia la guerra e Varsavia è occupata. Nella terza sequenza lavora nella resistenza. La sequenza finale si svolge durante la rivolta di Varsavia.
