The Grim Sleeper:The Lost Women of South Central🍒🍒🍒🍒🌱

Heartbreaking....Startling.

All women.
All black.
All murdered.
All were found in alleyways in South Central, Los Angeles.
Christine Pelisek followed these cases for 10 years....noting not just the grisly details of the murders, but the broader picture: homicides in areas of poverty, gang violence and drugs are given less concern by society because of their backgrounds. Pelisek was awarded - and definitely deserved - the Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles for her work on the Grim Sleeper cases. Without her dedication, and tenacity, many of these startling and heartbreaking stories and cases, would still be in cold case files. She helped bring to life and personalize the stories of these women's lives and tge tragedy of their deaths.

This book is based on police reports, court documents, autopsy reports, and interviews with detectives, family members and other sources. Some parts of this book were very hard to read, I could not imagine having to personally deal with these kinds of crimes.

Well written and reasearched, I totally enjoyed this book for its broader implication, and for its straight up refusal to allow these to often ignored crimes, to finally have a voice. Loved this!!

This book talks about the road to justice for the crimes of Lonnie Franklin, Jr., a serial killer who terrorized South Central LA, raping and killing many women. It took over 2 decades to identify him, arrest him and convict him of these heinous crimes. The stories of the women he terrorized is included, which I love. It reminds us that they were real people, with loved ones that miss them. I liked this book. I thought it was well-researched and well written. Every time I heard about the victims, I choked up, especially during the victim impact statements said in court. I was happy to hear each one, as they touched my heart. If you like true crime, I recommend this one. I enjoyed it.… (lisätietoja)
