John, Rachel and Dog continue their trek to Arizona. While in Tenn, John is recalled to the service and promoted to the rank of major. It doesn't take long before the zombie hoards overrun the base and people set off on their own. Continuing west, the trio find themselves fighting for survival from both zombies and humans - almost non-stop. They meet others en route who join them and eventually end up in a town of friendlies. John takes charge and organizes their defenses. Thousands of zombies arrive and the friendlies fight to the death - providing time for others to escape on a train going west.

The story ends before the battle is finished, leaving readers to buy the next book in the series to see the outcome. I'm going to be one of them and look forward to seeing what happens to the trio.… (lisätietoja)

The eastern and western borders of the United States are attacked with both atomic and virus dispensing weapons in an attempt to take over the country. It's a new twist on the Zombie culture where females are almost super inhuman and males are weaker and more sluggish; it also doesn't take a headshot to kill them. The protagonist is a businessman attending a meeting in Atlanta. When he awakes the following morning, he finds the world upside down. He's an ex-Special Forces soldier who must do whatever is possible to return to Arizona to determine the status of his wife.

While making his escape from the city, he rescues a stripper from a group of thugs. Together, they wonder through Georgia and battle zombie hordes and bad humans along the way. Turns out the stripper is a 4th year medical student who works her magic on the protagonist, saving both his life and others who are injured (new characters) during the trek.

Although this is still a cookie-cutter version of a zombie apocalypse story, the author has a smooth writing style that doesn't lag half-way through the book. There is action galore during the trio's (addition of a dog) journey westward.

I have already purchased book 2 and I look forward to reading what happens next.… (lisätietoja)
