Part truth, part fiction (as admitted in the appendix, p. 144, focused on the pre-1970 events), the story was woven from some enhanced speculative sources and actual interviews. Though artistic license was used to a great extent, there is a decent bibliography and evidence that Oliveros went to a lot of effort to uncover obscure news reports and find other media (like manifestos and short film clips) to create his narrative.

It is dangerous to the veracity of the Canadian historical record to have evidently ignored many of the sources that the author references (biblio, p.143), so a signal favour was done to bring his perspective to the attention of the reading public. One must balance this gain using an enhanced narrative against the suppression in national news of the day. Going forward for the younger population, a recounting of the many injustices to the working poor by both the Anglo- and French-Canadian elite corporate entities is invaluable.… (lisätietoja)

I am thrilled that this account of FLQ activities leading up to the October Crisis exists to introduce our grade tens to this time in Canadian history. And yes, it is the years leading up to, but not including, the October crisis. Stay tuned for book two – not too long I hope. I’m not sure why not include it all in one book because then people may read the second book without the background contained in this book? Future omnibus?

Well researched using multiple sources from differing perspectives including FLQ members own words, politicians, news reports etc. The must-read appendix includes; post-FLQ bios of the three founders around which the book is based; a concise two page summary of post-Duplessis Quebec in the 60s; and annotated references for each of the events in the book - including a couple of instances where artistic license was taken.
