I try to express only my most honest opinion in a spoiler free way. If you feel anything in my review is a spoiler and is not already hidden in spoiler brackets please let me know. Thank you.
So after Tyler and Bennet shout what ends up being a mechanical owl in the woods. Tyler turns to his sister Haley for help out of fear from breaking the law. After taking it to the police and having a weird and creepy encounter in the woods, they start having bad dreams and Bennet is acting weird as well. Something strange is happening in there little town and the woods nearby.
Ok so I got a free ARC on my kindle and I gotta say. I am so confused. I have no idea what is happening in this book. There are a few things that are coming together. However my huge problem in this book was a lack of plot. I mean, there was really nothing that the book lead up to and then happened. Generally in a series, its book has its own big event which in the end leads to the whole series main event. This book did not have an event. It feels like I read a book that the author forgot to finish right before the big finish.
Ok so that said. There are a few typos and such going on in this book, but nothing that couldn't easily be fixed with an editor or such. The texting format annoyed me a bit. It was just another paragraph. Not even a different font. So I would change that up. I'm starting to like some of the characters, but there is just not enough character devolopement here for me to really feel for them or grow attached, which is to bad cause I think there is real potential there. Especially for Tyler.
For a horror story, I really didn't find it scary. It was gruesome and gorey, but not scary or creepy really. I am afraid I am just so hung up on the ending. Or lack of one I should say. It was such a complete let down and unfortuntely it has really brought my rating for this book down. I might be willing to continue this series out of curiousity. If there was something that would happen and clear up some of my questions, then I might feel differently about this book.
To end on a positive note. I did find it pretty easy to read and fast. I have been on a small vaction this weekend and had very little time to read but still finished it, and if I had been home I would have probably finished in one sitting.
How I choose my rating:
1* Did not finish, or hated it but forced myself to finish.
2** Didn't really like it. Didn't hate it but not sure why I finished it other then for some closure.
3*** I liked it. I had some issues with it, but as a whole it was good. I probably won't reread again ever, but there is a chance I might finish the series. (If part of one) But if not it's not a huge loss.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this again, and I will finish the series. (If part of one) I would recommend to those I know hold interest in this books content.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will definitely be rereading this and probably more than once. I will finish the series and reread it multiple times. (If part of one) I will recommend this book to EVERYONE!!!!

Sometimes I review each story in an anthology and other times I review it as a whole. Seeing I would use a lot of the same words to describe each short story of the twelve included in Welcome to the Splatter Club, I will be doing it as a whole.

The gruesome cover and descriptive title make it easy to know what’s inside this splatterpunk horror anthology. Plenty of blood and guts, some delicious snacks, a has been Las Vegas comedienne, bullies, trophies, outer space, the penguin, and so much more had me cringing, feeling like I want to cover my eyes.

If you are looking for something that is spook worthy, Welcome to the Splatter Club has all you could ask for. The short stories can fill in those moments when you are waiting in line at the drug store, sitting in the doctor’s office, or any time you have a couple of spare minutes.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Welcome to the Splatter Club.

A short book that manages to grab on to all the 1980s horror movie themes. The story revolves around an area that was formerly a state park and now owned by a mysterious corporation. People have gone missing and there is something that isn’t quite right about the park. A sister tries to patch up a relationship with her younger brother who has recently visited the park with a friend and stumbles into something sinister. Secret dark agencies, an unsuspecting town, violent murder, teenagers experimenting with sex and magic, and a mysterious glue round out this portion of The Watchers of the Black Rite. A well done bit of horror.… (lisätietoja)
