Truman accepts the nomination for Vice-President in Joplin, Mo., as the war rages on. Sept.3 has a radio ad for George Burns & Gracie Allen, an article on 77-year old Charles Dana Gibson and one on swimming star Esther Williams. And the sports pages tell the tale of the pennant race in both leagues, a season that would see the St.Louis Cardinals and Browns take each other on in an all St. Louis World Series.

A double-sized issue with multiple comic strips, the highlights being Buz Sawyer, Gasoline Alley, Krazy Kat and Modesty Blaise. The cover is a nice and lightly humorous drawing of all this issue's stars, drawn by George Perez.

A collection of horror comic book stories from the 1950's comic by the same name, which led to the creation of the Comics Code. The reproduction is fine, the stories are well-chosen, but the art and the stories are not quite the equal of the contemporary science-fictionish "Shock Suspenstories".

The beginning of a planned series reprinting classic adventure comic strips. This one reprints "King of the Royal Mounted", a mediocre adventure strip by Jim Gary from 1947, and "Mandrake the Magician", an adventure strip from 1937 scripted by Lee Falk, but drawn by the wonderful (artist, anyway) Alex Raymond.
