Let's get this out of the way first. This is an MPreg story. And unlike the other omegaverse Leta Blake has created, the pregnancy and birth is front and centre in this story.

Leta Blake has stated that this pen name allows her to write darker stories. I didn't really get that from this title; highly sexual but not dark by any means. Maybe if the story has been solely from Adrien's pov, then this would have given it more mystery, but knowing Heath's secrets and his feelings relieved the tension.
What that leaves is a sexually charged first third, followed by a lovely romance.

The romance is a natural D/S relationship with an age gap and a virgin MC.

The world-building was great, similar to Slow Heat, but there are little differences. The biggest one might be, that there are no mates in this world. At least it wasn't mentioned at all.

My first impression on Heath was not good. I didn’t like him. He was a commanding, dominating asshole, but I realized he was just protecting himself. And eventually he slowly thawed out, but sometimes he reversed back to being a typical alpha. And the things they did in the sex department, was a bit degrading and humiliating, but Adrien liked it, so...

With Adrien it was the opposite. I liked him at first, he was sweet, a little shy and unsure thanks to his upbringing, but as I got to know him better, I did not like what I saw. He was too accepting, comfortable and settled into things so easily. I mean, he did have questions, but he believed the answers too easily and just let himself pampered and... hmm... he wasn't very strong-willed. And that's why the following quote bugged me.

"Now, rubbing his gradually expanding stomach, he had a hard time understanding what had seemed so important in all that academia, what had held his attention so tenaciously. This new life, his changing body, and his slow-growing relationship with Heath seemed much more compelling"

Adrien was saying this while high on hormones and felt content. Thankfully he did think it over later.
Priorities change, when you have a kid, but if you have plans for your own future, you shouldn't abandon them. Just because you're a parent, doesn't mean you're not allowed to have a career, it doesn't mean you have to put aside you're hobbies or whatever makes you happy, outside from having a family. I mean, if that's what you want out of life, just to be a Mom/Dad, that's fine, but life should be more than that.

So anyway. I didn't have such intense feelings about this book than Slow Heat and Alpha Heat, so 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

I also invite you to read Vvivacoius's review (I hope they don't mind), they said it best.

We jumped into the thick of things almost immediately. But before that, we got to know how Russ and Wade met and became a couple. It was just a recollection of events in the first chapter.

Wade decided to reconcile his friendship with his ex, but he didn't expect what came next..
Writing from the villain's POV is a hard thing to pull off. To me this scenario was ridiculous, which was partly intentional. But there’s a fine line between ridiculousness and portraying a crazy person with manic tendencies. And it didn't work for me here.

What shocked me a bit is that there's 2 kids in this story, 9 and 12 year olds, and they've been told what happened to Wade, though not in detail. They even told them the police shot the bad guy, who the kids knew. That's just not right. I don't understand why that was necessary.

Otherwise, I liked Russ, he's a devoted boyfriend, very much in love. And I liked them together. I also understood the mentality behind this whole story, but after a while it got out of hand to me. I've no doubt the author did her research, regarding rape and torture victims, but the sex plan they put together with the Doc was too similar to what happened to Wade and I didn't like that. But like I said, I understand, and believe that a plan like that could work to heal the mind of the victim, but it was hella weird. Kudos to Russ for going along with it.

All in all, this whole book revolved around sex, one way or another. And I would've liked to know more about Wade's friendship with Owen, see the good times, and get a grasp of their dynamic, how was it back then. And also to see the joyful life Russ and Wade had before the kidnapping.
