This book was a bit of a disappointment. Moore started as a child actor at 2 years of age and worked with Mary Pickford, Mary Miles Minter, Gloria Swanson, and was in the original Cecil B. DeMille’s 1927 King of Kings. He considered DeMille his mentor. After he transitioned out of acting, DeMille recommended him for work in the Property Department and eventually he worked his way up to Director but eventually did most of his work as Second Unit Director on such films as The Ten Commandments, Gunfight at the OK Corral, King Creole, Blue Hawaii, The Sons of Katie Elder, Patton, Rooster Cogburn, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Cool Runnings, 101 Dalmations, and many others. He spends some time on some of the behind the scenes set-ups on the Indiana Jones films and 101 Dalmations, and some of the others. The book also has a lot of great photos as well as reproductions of letters. However, with all the actors he worked with, he provides very little information on what they were like. I’m not interested in gossip but when a chapter ends with “How blessed I was to be working with the likes of George C. Scott, Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Lee Marvin, Robert Duvall, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Richard Harris, Robert Redford, and Jack Lemmon. And what about those talented and beautiful actresses? Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Lee Remick, and Lee Grant.” (p. 167) but we didn’t hear what it was like to work with them. Each chapter is organized by a decade of Mr. Moore’s life and at the end of each chapter he lists the films he was associated with for that decade. His listing for 1947’s Easy Come Easy Go is incorrect as he lists the star as Brian Fitzgerald when it was Barry Fitzgerald. If you want to know what Mr. Moore did throughout his life in film, the book will provide it. If you want to know what it was like to work with these folks or reminiscences of them, this book does not provide it.… (lisätietoja)
