Nicholas Millman

Another good study by Millman with particular emphasis on the machine's use in New Guinea and the Japanese home islands, where in the later theater the Ki-61's reliability issues could be somewhat mitigated.

A very nice addition to the series that makes me think about how the study of Japanese military aviation has advanced; at one point these men would be faceless ciphers but now we have enough real knowledge to assemble a group biography of these pilots.

While a fairly typical entry in this series, what I particularly like about this number is how Millman casts a good bit of light on the combat history of this relatively enigmatic type. This is besides doing a fine job of converting the men who flew this plane into being real characters, as opposed to merely being cyphers.
