For anyone who enjoys Turn of the Screw, Woman In Black or just a good spooky play, this is the bomb. Okay, I'm a little biased, I have a thing for Victorian/Edwardian style ghost stories and already loved Edith Nesbit before I discovered this play.
It's Christmas Eve. Edith's philandering husband is hosting a party where he can groom his next prey. Carolers arrive and a fan of Edith Nesbit sneaks into the house with the singers. At first he says, he just wanted to see Edith. But when a girl falls ill, he takes the opportunity to carry her upstairs to a bedroom, giving him the chance to talk with Edith in private.
Perhaps before he leaves she could do a short reading?
She's in a dark mood. Instead of reaching for her more famous children's stories, she picks up her collection of ghost stories. Is this really appropriate at Christmas?
Her maid shows up with tea--she's always enjoyed a good shuddery story, she'll stay and listen.
I would LOVE to see this play performed--perfect for October and Halloween with the holidays coming. 80 pages. Biting humor, dark stuff with a twist.… (lisätietoja)
