Rosemary McDunn

This book is set in the Dust Bowl era and is about how a little girl and her family have to finally sell their farm due to economic strains. The family also gets split up because the mother and father both have to go to work to make ends meet, so the parents end up sending their two youngest to a family as servants while they work. The little girl and her brother endure a lot of hardships but, eventually, get reunited with their parents.

I really liked the book because it was told in a way that set the stage for what was going to happen. I thought the language used was great to and I could see a lot of uses for a class, too. There wasn't much illustrations but the book cover is what drew my attention.

I probably would use this book for older children, for instance, from 3rd or 4th grade on up into high school. I think it would be great for history, geography, english, and possibly even social studies. Possibly even for a major project use as in a reference for a play.… (lisätietoja)
