St. Bart's 2016 #4 - Unique little book I picked up recently at a flea market that i threw in my vacation bag at the last minute that attempts to clarify where all of the odd town, lake, river, mountain, & every other geographic entity names came from in the State of Maine....and we've got some humdingers! Not an ultra-deep scholarly work for sure, and the jury is still out on a whole bunch of them. But having lived in the great State of Maine for over 27 years, I realized there was much I had yet to learn....and that I did. For those that did have accepted origins, some were in great detail....others sadly were not. It has an inconsistent feel about it, but it was interesting nonetheless. My biggest complaint would be the lack of a map to show me where all of these ridiculous sounding places actually are.....many are of native American origin that I have never even heard of. But this will be a nice little reference to have handy in the future, if for no other reason, than to attempt to impress dinner guests!… (lisätietoja)
