a beautiful book with wonderful photos. This is a luxury book on polished paper with lots of colored photos. It is social history of New York in the Gilded Era of the Vanderbilts, the Astors and their sorts as they tried to outdo one another with their balls, galas, parties etc. There is a section on the architecture of the period-I am sorry so much of it has been demolished-and the fashions of the period.
