In Comic Books and Comic Strips in the United States through 2005: An International Bibliography, John A. Lent continues his bibliography series of citations related to comic art, this time focused on what was then the most up-to-date sources. Among the various volumes, U.S. sources account for “42,232 entries, broken down by comic books and comic strips, 25,416; and animation, gag, magazine, and political cartoons, 16,816” (pg. vii). He breaks down his sources into sub-headings of general sources on comic books; those related to artistic and business aspects; criticism and reviews; exhibitions, festivals, and awards; legal and ethical aspects; and scholarship. Further, his examination of comic strips follows similar fields. As one of the founders of the International Journal of Comic Art, Lent’s expertise is well-known. While Greenwood Press has since phased out publication of these bibliographies, this recent (and likely final) edition will serve as an invaluable research tool for scholars of comic books and comic strips.… (lisätietoja)

Somewhat dated now, but certainly an extremely useful overview of newspaper and periodical printing and the development of radio and television technologies in the Caribbean region. Lent explores each cultural region and then broadens his focus to examine pan-Caribbean trends in mass communications. Thorough and well sourced. An update to bring things into the digital age would be most welcome.
