A friend of mine on Facebook casually mentioned that another friend of hers, someone whose comments, etc., I’ve seen many times, was about to take down all of the books he had available through various retail sources. Really. I had said some years ago that if he ever wrote a book, I wanted to read it. He is a very fascinating man, in my very humble opinion. Somehow he sneaked three in there, two of which I was able to snag before they were taken away. It seemed a rush to get there to grab them, so I did it immediately, not for one minute thinking I’d read them right away.

I got involved reading a traditionally published book that was making me nuts. I was so exhausted after reading 1/4 of it, that I needed a break. J Nelson Leith’s The Woman Who Wouldn’t Die was going to be my hoped-for break.

It was.

This was a short book at an estimated 60 pages, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. At no point was I ever sorry I picked it up to read. This one held my attention from page one. That fishing pole was dangling in the river right in front of me, and Leith had me hooked.

It doesn’t matter whether or not you like dark, twisted and sinister. In some respects, I don’t. This, however, will take you places that were in the back of your mind all the time, bring them forward, give you chills, and then put them back where they were.

I was hoping, though it may be small hope, that The Observers Casebook would become a series. This is one time where I would actually read a series of these. After all the epic trilogies people are currently writing, this was a refreshing change, fast-paced and didn’t bog you down with heavy verbiage – and yet, at the same time, you knew you were reading quality work. I was struck by Leith’s command of the English language on all levels.

I want to tap his mind and get more stories out of him. I want to build this Commonwealth in my head. I want more.

I was fortunate enough to also snag Heather Hadrigal. I wish he had left On the Head of a Pin available, as well.

(Personal note to Leith: I knew what I was getting into when I bought both books. Let me tell you right now, this was worth every single damn penny.)
