Nelson Kraybill (PhD, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia) has served as president of Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary and has taught the book of Revelation for more than twenty years on four continents. This book offers a thematic approach to the study of Revelation. Although each chapter focuses on a section of Revelation, they do not occur in the order in which those sections appear in Revelation. Kraybill emphasizes the anti-imperial rhetoric and nonviolent resistence teachings of Revelation. The book is accessible to laypeople and offers good food for thought at times.
A commentary on the book of Revelations that for once is not about pre-millennial prophecies imported into the present day, but rather one that deals with the social and political environment at the time St John was writing. A valuable book today therefore not only for understanding Revelations in its historical context, but also on how a Christian is to live as an "alien, an exile in a foreign land".
What makes an intentional pilgrimage? How does a pilgrimage differ from any other travel or trip? J. Nelson Kraybill shares his preparation and twelve-day pilgrimage along the Pilgrim's Way outside of London.
On foot, the author enters Canterbury just in time of a Pentecost service at that city's greatest cathedral. He has spent ten days on this 140-mile trek historically known as the Pilgrim's Way. Each morning Kraybill meets different walking partners. After reading scripture and having prayer at a local church, they hike eastward and discuss topics of Christian discipleship from the Gospel of Luke: conversion, prayer, celebration, community, fasting, money, doubt, risk-taking, peacemaking, etc.
This book also contains photographs of the various places along with the persons with whom the author walked each day. This is not a substitute for a pilgrimage, but it does come close!… (lisätietoja)
