This very informative story of the Rangers' inception when they carried a musket, whistle, and hatchet to their present-day training and service in modern warfare will motivate readers (especially middle school and high school boys) to learn more about the Rangers and even to read other books in James Koons' series such as Air Assault Teams, Green Berets, and U.S. Navy Seals. The strength of the work is its accessibility to many with a low reading level, high interest level, and visually stimulating layout. The weakness may be that it would interest females less; yet, this writer, a woman, also enjoyed the information.
