Never before has the art of TaeKwon-Do been so literally or pictorally defined and illustrated. Contained herein is an in-depth look at not only a martial art, but also a truly meaningingful way of life, featuring daily and lifelong conditioning practices for the body, mind, and spirit.

As fire existed on earth long before man discovered its versatility, so the are of TaeKwon-Do has existied for centruies, only now bding brought to light. As man soon found a need to control and respect fire, so the power of TaeKwon-Do must be used with control and respect, inspiring its uniquely developed and refined philosophy.

Master Y.K. Kim has devoted his entire career to others through TaeKwon-Do. As a top world demonstrator, his travels span the globe. He has performed countless benefit exhibitions to support the less fortunate and to aid children's homes. He has established a college scholardship program for TaeKwon-Do students. Master Kim is the President and founder of the World Martial Art Research Institute, and the American TaeKwon-Do Federation, headquartered in Orlando, Florida. He yet aspires to establish a fully credited 4-year TaeKwon-Do college, broadening his ability to promote world peace through this art. Of all Master Kim's honors and achievements, he most cherishes this work; the authoritative TaeKwon-Do bible, dictionary, and guide.

Anyone who reads this book can appreciate the insight and wisdom as well as technical knowledge it contains. Only those of us who have known Master Y.K. Kim from the beginnng of his journey in America can appreciate the magnitude of his accompishment.

Seven years ago my son and I were introduced to Master Kim by another master. He sat silently in the booth of the small coffee shop. I could sense that he was a man of depth but the human mind is a treasure chest and language the the key which unlocks it.. I spoke no Korean he barely any English.

That is why I marveled once more at this man when I read a first draft of this book. What you read here are his thoughts expresed by him in his new language, English, to which he has applied himself with the same fierce determination he applies to every undertaking. As a professional writer, I can tell you that Master Kim now an American citizen has certainly earned his 'black belt' as a writer of English prose.

And we are the beneficiaries. The first requisite of a writer is to have something to say and Master Kim has a great deal to say which is valuable. He speaks with credentials of a man who has masterd a difficult art but more importantly as a man whose own life validates what he says. He has lived by the principles about which he writes. His action philosophy is the product of an alert intelligent mind learning from the most demanding school of all 'life.' That he has lived and learned in two worlds East and West makes his observations all the more rich.

What this book is about is survival in the most profound sense of the word. It is about a way to health and to self-defense skills both necessary for the survival of the individual but it is also about moral values and character both necessary for the survivial of mankind. The human questions of war or peace happiness or misery ultimately are answered according to the character and moral values of human beings. Master Kim has dedicated his life to making TaeKwon-Do a means of achieving peace and happiness. His vision of this ancient martial art is unique as he himself is unique. He is a pioneer in the truest sense. He is a man who has armed himself with the best of the traditional past and is striking out for new horizons.

After seven years I have given up urging him to rest, to ease up on the 18-hour days, and to pause long enough to enjoy the fruit of his success I know now, he will never do that. He is not like the rest of us. He is a special karma. He is driven by something inside him, to make this world a better place. I can only tell you that not once has Master KIm ever failed to do what he set out to do.-Charley Reese Syndicated Columnist
