This would be a good book for older elementary school students. This book goes through the different Greek gods and goddesses and the history of this mythology. This would be good in the classroom to educate students on these beliefs and part of history, and give them a factual book that still has pictures for them to look at.

A world's wealth of information about dogs hits in an easy to digest way, while letting the wide diversity of dogs shine.

Divided into continents, this book introduces the various types of dogs coming from around the world. Each chapter starts with a very basic map of the continent and a list of dogs, which will be presented (the list does not demonstrate the order in which they are presented, though). Then, each dog receives (usually) a quarter page devoted to it. A brief paragraph or two describes the attributes, habits, special traits, and general dispositions of the dogs. There's a quick-glance rubric, which lists the country of origin, size, coat and personality. Each dog is illustrated in an easy-to-recognize manner as well.

This is a wealth of information on dogs for children. Not only are the dogs each explored, but there are also bit describing the dog anatomy, behaviors, and more. It holds many known and lesser known breeds as well as a couple of mixes. The text is direct but written in an enjoyable manner, and easy for the age level to understand. Each breed is put in a very positive light, making this one which celebrates dogs of all types and kinds (and many are more than adorable).

The illustrations are simple, bright and do their job. My daughter was disappointed that photos aren't included, since true dog lovers do enjoy seeing the dogs...not just illustrations of them. But this does get the job done, too, and makes each one recognizable

Dog fans will have tons of information at their fingertips and get to know the world of dogs well.

This book gets two stars because it isn't entirely awful, which would land it a one star review. It has factual information certainly, and the illustrations are well done.

I have several bones to pick otherwise. For one thing, where are the pronunciations? Not even a glossary one in the back, and you're expecting kids to pronounce Chimera, Osiris, Heimdallr, etc.? I can't even pronounce all of these without looking it up, and it hardly seems fair to depend on a parent or child to look it up when it could have just been included.

The other is the narrator. This is a small gripe, but the fact of the matter is that the centaur narrator is so invisible after the introduction page if he'd been excluded entirely pretty much nothing but a few lines would have changed. Why include him that way at all if you aren't going to use him?

My next issue is repetitiveness. The introduction paragraphs for each of the regions could have been cut entirely and the total information lost would have been maybe two sentences. Maybe. It summarized what you were going to learn in that section. It didn't hold my attention, I don't see how it would hold a child's.

Another thing is the vagueness. In all those introductions you think they could have been slightly more specific in region beyond continent.

I will give credit for being specific about Tribes and naming them in the North American portion of the book, but that was also one of the smaller parts.

Overall, this book could certainly entertain and inform a child about different pantheons. I just dearly hope that there is a better one out there.
