Lynn Kear

Thorough biography of actress Evelyn Brent - who was a big star in the late silent and early sound era but ended up fading away into oblivion. The author did a great deal of research into her life which shows in the biography portion of the book. The filmography portion is the mos detailed of any filmography I have ever seen, letting us know if the film is lost or if not, in what archives it exists, information on director/writers/cast, a plot summary, reviews, and a brief synopsis of some of the major players in the film. Great biography of actress Kay Francis who essentially said she "wanted to be forgotten". The authors had access to a calendar which also had notations in shorthand, of Francis' trysts with both men and women. For the time, it seemed like she slept around a lot - often juggling 2 men at the same time. And while I did not count, I would estimate she had at least a half-dozen abortions, if not more. The authors really gave you an idea of what she was doing when due to having the calendar access but also provided information on the various men she was seeing, including movie co-stars, and the reviews of the films. There is a filmography in the back which provides credits and cast but no synopsis. There is one discrepancy where on page 89 there is a photo of a home on 8341 Delongpre Avenue that Kay purchased but in the text on page 88 it lists the address as 8371 Delongpre Avenue. The book has numerous photos that show the wonderful fashions that Francis was well known for. I especially liked how Kay ran out her Warner's contract. As the highest paid star on the lot, they wanted her to break her contract and had her do tasks most stars would refuse like participate in screen tests for newcomers. Kay always said she was interested in the money and did nothing that would cause the studio to fire her. She gave it to Warner Brothers just as good as Olivia deHavilland, Bette Davis, and James Cagney. In the end though, her life seemed a sad cycle of getting intoxicated, sleeping with someone (man or woman), regretting it the next day, and then a few months later - if it had been a man, having an abortion.… (lisätietoja)

Quick read, suspenseful, entertaining.....that's all I need from Lynn Kear! I really enjoyed the setting in this book. Lots of background given on the characters. Great crime drama with great character development. She has quite an art of description and staying true to that character, that makes me feel that I would recognize these people if I was to ever cross paths with them. It is a great story and I enjoyed it. Kear's books are always so very well written and as usual she told the story so well!… (lisätietoja)

It's a story of a long lost love, an unsolved murder and what happens when people meet after thirty five years. How times and feelings have changed, or not as the case may be. It's also the story of the consequences of misguided actions and what the outcome of these actions will be.

Brilliantly plotted, with startling twists, here is a thrilling page-turner from Lynn Kear. Loved this book, totally sucks you in. The ending was fantastic, a must read for people who love mysteries with a twist! I highly recommend it.… (lisätietoja)
