I received Laci on Top from the author through the BDSM Group’s TPE BAR read2review program for an honest review. The story is told in third person through the eyes of Laci and her husband Cole.

Before I start my review, I have to state that I don’t normally read M/F books, because I’ve found most female protagonists annoying. I read almost strictly M/M, but I wanted to give this story a try because it revolves around Laci, a dominant woman.

Laci and Cole have been married many years. Their son has just gone off to college, and now they have the house to themselves. Laci and Cole have a close and loving relationship which the author conveyed well throughout the book. They also have a healthy sex life, if not a bit ordinary.

From the beginning of the book the author lets us know how Laci likes to have control over almost everything, meaning not just sex. Cole on the other hand is easy going and fun. I actually preferred Cole in this story because of his personality. I found Laci a bit uptight.

Through playing around, Laci finds out that Cole likes a bit of dominance and from there, they start to explore D/s. They are novices, so even a trip to an adult store is embarrassing for Laci. I did think the trip they made to an adult story funny. It was probably my favorite scene. One scene I didn’t care for was the one that took place directly after the cop drove away. I didn’t like how Laci treated Cole, but that’s how the author wished to write her. And I know there are harsher books with Dommes out there and this scene wasn’t anywhere close.

Being new to domination, Laci and Cole proceeded kind of slow, although at some points I think Laci tried to push too hard which I didn’t care for. However this book is not the harsh kind of domination in many other Femdom books. I’m not interested in those kind of books and I’m glad the author wrote a more gentle style of Femdom. There aren’t enough books written like this.

The writing is smooth and easy to read. I don’t remember spotting any errors and if there were any, it didn’t affect the story. I did find the plot a bit slow, but that’s because of the kind of book it was. It’s a story of exploration, not one with shoot ‘em up action. Probably it didn’t help that I also read a few books before this one that had leisurely plots too. By the time I got to Laci on Top, I was itching for a fast paced read.

I found Laci on Top well written, easy to read, although a bit slow paced. Laci and Cole were a loving couple and easily likeable, especially Cole and their love for each shone throughout the book. Their evolution into their D/s roles were realistic with them experimenting with what worked, and what didn’t work for them as a couple. This is a more gentle look at D/s and not the kind with harsh, bitch mistresses. If that’s what you’re looking for you won’t find it here. If you’re looking for a leisurely, loving read, then this book is for you. I give Laci on Top 4 Stars.

In this short, sweet and deliciously spicy tale we follow Linda and Carol, a happily married couple in their fifties to an exclusive invitation-only party for women.

We only get a brief taste of the couple's life together, but I loved the affection and desire that was obvious in their conversation while getting ready for the event, and it is refreshing to read an angst-free story of an older couple who participate in the lifestyle and thrive on sharing and meeting new people. And I love the glimpses into New Zealand life we always get in Donna Jay's stories.

So fix yourself a beverage, kick back and enjoy the party. Linda and Carol did, and so did I.

A new book from Donna Jay is always a treat. It could be the not-quite-Australian feel of her language a settings (New Zealand in this case, as with everything I've read from Donna to date). It could be the warmth with which she draws her characters. It could be the steamy scenes, which are beautifully written. Whatever it is, it feels just right and leaves me smiling every time.

This book is a stand-alone spinoff from "The Secrets we Keep". If you haven't read it then I recommend doing so before you get started on "The People we Trust". Not because this book doesn't stand alone, but because it is a great read, and it would be a shame for anyone to miss it.

Soraya Jansen is a strong, independent woman who has sworn off relationships. Here she is forty years old and she has just taken over management of the beauty parlour in which she works, where the staff provide a range of "special" extra services to their female clientele.

In the way of romance novels, the fact that Soraya isn't seeking a relationship doesn't stop one from coming her way, bringing with it the awkwardness and uncertainty we thrive on as readers. Also delightfully sexy banter, and fur babies of both the canine and feline variety to fawn over.

This is a five-star read, very highly recommended and I'm looking forward to a promised third book, following a different couple with their own story, at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I've read a few of Donna Jay's books and this one might be her best yet!

As an Australian I enjoy the almost-familiar-yet-unknown feel of New Zealand and the author excels at incorporating "slice of life" details into her books without losing focus on her characters. Sadie and Victoria are both strong women who have been hurt and seeing them find each other makes for some great feel-good moments, lots of laugh-out-loud-worthy banter and some (hot!) sexy times, with less kink and more joy than we're used to reading from Donna.

Having the story told from Sadie's perspective then switching tracks around halfway to Victoria's point-of-view works really well, and I think I prefer this technique to the more common alternating chapters seen in dual-point-of-view novels.

This is a stand-alone "age gap", workplace, rich-girl/poor-girl story with a well-written and loveable supporting cast, at least one of whom will be getting their own story in a future novel.

I had a great time in this world. I give the book five stars and a high recommendation.
