This is a sweeping story of four generations of women trying to deal with the stresses of their families. And, this family has a lot of issues to deal with (perhaps too many for one book?), including child abuse, infidelity, attempted murder and more.

It took me a while to get into the story...the author jumps right in and I felt as if I'd come late to a movie...but I'm glad I persisted because the book gets better and better.

Nathe and Alexa, daughters of Emilie and Thomas, wonder why they never see their grandparents or uncle. Their mother has mental health issues and leaves for a "short stay" in a mental health facility...at least, that's where she says she's going. There are rumours their father is dating a girl around their age. The girls try to make sense of their family life, and are befriended by the Pianos, a couple who take advantage of them. As we learn their story, we also learn the back story of the family.

The book is well written, and after two days, I'm still thinking about what the future may hold for these sisters.… (lisätietoja)
