The aim of the Brooklyn Voices series is to promote and enhance the creative vitality of our home neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill by providing writers, artists, and intellectuals with a local forum in which to discuss and present their works. Commemorating ten years of the revolutionary oral history project StoryCorps, the new book Ties That Bind is a collection of stories that are a testament to the transformational power of listening. Founder Dave Isay, editor of three previous bestselling StoryCorps collections, draws from StoryCorp’s rich archives to collect conversations that celebrate the power of the human bond and capture the moment at which individuals become family. Between blood relations, friends, coworkers, and neighbors, in the most trying circumstances and in the unlikeliest of places, enduring connections are formed and lives are forever changed. Isay hosts past StoryCorps participants in a moving presentation of the collection’s true stories tonight as part of Brooklyn Voices at St. Joseph’s College. St. Joseph’s College is located at 245 Clinton Avenue. Staff will direct guests to the Tuohy Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public. Signing passes will not be issued. Seating and signing are first come, first served.
