Aggie and her best friend Betty left rainy, cold England to visit Aggie's daughter Sarah in California. Sarah with her Marine husband Everette recently transferred to a base in the high desert area. They are currently staying with friends until they can get settled. Aggie, as a widow with plenty of money, intends to buy her daughter a house.

They arrive in warm Palm Springs, where they will stay with Betty's cousin, Roger Dupree. And, his friend Lance, who is a realtor, will show houses to Aggie while she is visiting.

As Lance and Aggie begin house hunting, he receives a phone call telling him his ex-girlfriend, Tiffany, has disappeared. Aggie suggests to Lance that they go to Tiffany's house to see if they can find her. The open door and unmade bed are ominous.

And then Roger is robbed of his $250,000 fish.

Awakened Within, A Vienna Rossi Paranormal Mystery… Tekijä: Michelle Ann Hollstein

First of all, Awakened Within, A Lost Souls Novel by Michelle Ann Hollstein, is not my usual go-to genre, but Hollstein’s positive social media presence (See! It does matter!) had an impact on me, so I thought I’d see what the book was all about. I’m glad I did.
After what begins as a strange dream, the story’s heroine, Vienna Rossi, finds herself falling into a strange world of ghosts and other-worldly beings who seemingly need her help. Now, this is one of those books that is nearly impossible to review without giving too much of the plot away, so I’ll simply say that if you’re a fan of the paranormal blended into a murder mystery, with a dose of reluctant heroism thrown in, you will enjoy this book.
The character development (even the dead ones) is excellent, and I really enjoyed how the author sprinkled just enough humour into the story to keep me wanting more. As they often do, Awakened Within ends with the reader imagining the next novel and where Vienna and her handsome spirit-guide will find themselves. Oh, did I forget the mention the subtle sexual tension between Vienna and her spirit-guide? Well, you’ll just have to read the book.… (lisätietoja)

A Hardboiled Murder (Aggie Underhill Mystery, #4) Tekijä: Michelle Ann Hollstein

This was a light, light read. Did I mention that it was light? Aggie Underhill, a widow who moved from England to California to be near her daughter's family, snoops around the murder of a has-been movie star. With her is her best friend who bought the condo next door, and a police officer who wants to be more than a friend.

Not much of a mystery, to be honest. But if you want some fluff with no gore, bad language or sex involving amateur mature female detectives, it may be for you.
